Apple and dried cherry crisp

Apple and dried cherry crisp    (I also made it with  peaches instead of apples and raisins instead of dried cherries. Both versions are delicious.)

6 apples ( ~ 2 pounds) sliced
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 cup dried cherries
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup oats
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces or 3 tablespoon canola oil

1 Preheat oven to 375 F

2 In a bowl, sprinkle apples with 1 tablespoon sugar and mix with dried cherries. Place in a 9-by-11-inch baking dish.

3 Mix flour, oats, sugar and salt in a bowl and then add butter or oil and mix until mixture resembles a coarse meal.

4 Spoon evenly over apples.

5 Bake for 40 minutes or until filling is bubbly and topping begins to brown.
